Pick Up and Play Instructions
“Raise your hand if you don’t read the instructions for games?…sir, why are both your hands raised?”
“Cuz I doubly don’t read them.”
In my 18 years of gaming, I’ve met only a few who read a game’s instructions before playing - and by a “few”, I mean absolutely no one. I’m really not sure what the dealio is behind what I can only describe as laziness. Perhaps it isn’t merely indifference but a desire to figure out the game through play.
For online games, reading the instructions should be a mini-game surprise. You’re reading how to control your character, when blammo, a monkey runs across the screen and bananas all over the words, and your objective becomes poke him away with the mouse cursor. When the monkey crawls away beaten, another monkey enters the frame and starts throwing other monkeys at the window’s Close button. Why monkeys? Not really sure. I guess I just wanted to use the word banana as a verb.
