Piers raises some great questions and concerns about the elusive trend business. In a creative field such as ours, it becomes difficult to quantify and prove what, at the end of the day, is sometimes a gut instinct. The hard fact is that trends are spotted by those who not only put the time into looking for the trends but those who have the capability to synthesize all of the endless, endless data.
Oh, and if you’re going to the PSFK conference in a few weeks…see you there!

Passage: a Gamma256 video game by Jason Rohrer
“Passage is meant to be a memento mori game. It presents an entire life, from young adulthood through old age and death, in the span of five minutes. Of course, it’s a game, not a painting or a film, so the choices that you make as the player are crucial. There’s no “right” way to play Passage, just as there’s no right way to interpret it. However, I had specific intentions for the various mechanics and features that I included. You’ve probably figured most of these out already, but I wanted to put forth a few explanations for anyone who is interested.”
On first glance this might seem like an limited low-fi zelda-type game, but reading the description you realize what an incredible idea is being realized in Passage. Not to be missed.

My wife shared this post with me and I was struck by what an effective service it is:
Life has taught us …: Green Tips: A Safe Christmas For All: “MomsRising.org, one of my favorite non-profits out there, came up with a great idea this year. They are offering a service to find out if the toys you are considering are safe and non-toxic, while out shopping, via mobile phone. Simply text: healthytoys [toy name] to 41411. They will respond instantly with the results, based on recent comprehensive tests by HealthyToys.org. You can find more info about the No Toxic Toys program on the MomsRising.org website.”
